Sadly we are forced to remove and ban real porn on our booru.org platform starting from 31 march. The reasons are as followed:
Financing: The platform does not generate enough revenue from ads to stay afloat, we’re making around a 25% loss that has to be paid out of pocket. With real porn getting crowdfunding (patreon, subscribestar etc) is not possible. Getting rid of of real porn opens up more possibilities. We were forced to stop our crowdfunding earlier because of this.
Legality: Real porn comes with risks such as underage content, revenge porn etc. Keeping this in check requires constant moderation, many times we find that the sites with real porn are abandoned or poorly moderated. There are constant law changes and we can’t keep up with this.
If you are a administrator of one of the larger real porn sites on our network (25k+ posts/active community) we can provide you with a backup of the database, excluding user data so you can self host the content. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested. Do this before 31 march.
I’m putting some of community asked questions here so you don’t have to find them in the comments:
Will hentai be banned next?:
How will it be determined that a booru has real porn on it?:
We will not use bots or algorithm’s, humans will scan the sites.
Will a single image of a real person in a gallery with 20,000 other drawn images warrant the entire booru’s removal?:
No, all moderators and admins of the booru’s should make sure real images are removed. If they keep up the moderation a couple images that went trough the needle will not warrant the deletion of a entire booru.
Is there or will there be a list of the sites on the chopping block before the 31st? If so, when will it be out?:
Chopping list is a good idea, we’ll try to work on it and hopefully release it to the public before 31 march but no promises.
Is there a way for a non-administrator like myself to acquire an entire booru’s image gallery easily in the case of an inactive site? (No idea how to use Imgbrd on Github.)?:
We would have to say no as if users were able to ask for backups it would cause to much workload on me for exporting the things. I would recommend downloading said images from the site trough gallery download programs before 31 march instead. We do have the bandwidth available for people to archive said content. We would kindly ask to keep downloaders single threaded as to not overload the server.
